Noel has now retired from organising the Hoot n Scoot and has since passed away however a few years before he left us he had handed it over to Cathy Breed. Here is his story on how it got started.
Hi Everyone,
A short story on how the Line Dance Easter camping weekend started.
Noel Honeyman was the original organiser of the Kenilworth Hoot n Scoot. Here is his story.
I have camped, with my family in the State Forest Parks near Kenilworth over the Easter long weekends since the late 1970’s.
Back on Easter Sunday in 2009 I was in Kenilworth shopping and I noticed the Hall and an idea developed about a Camping and Line Dancing weekend. I made enquiries about the availability of the hall and inspected the hall for its suitability, with a tentative booking made, to be confirmed in a couple of weeks.
I then approached Brett Jenkins of Brisbane, my Line Dancing Teacher, to see if he would look after the Line Dancing and Music for the weekend. He agreed. I then approached Jenny Ogden, a Line Dance Teacher in Gympie, to see if she would share the workload with Brett. She agreed. I wanted three teachers so Ebonie Sippel, a Line Dance Teacher in Lowood, agreed to be number three.
With the confirmation of our booking and then 10 months to plan we were on our way to a successful Easter. Our first Easter Weekend was in 2010. Due to COVID-19 Easter in 2020 was cancelled. That’s a brief story of how the Hoot n Scoot Line Dancing Easter Weekend started.
It is now on our Line Dancing Calendar as an Annual Event. 2024 is the 15th year and many Dancers have not missed one, saying that it is their favourite Dance Weekend of the year.
The www.kenilworth.qld.au web site has a good Route Map with Directions, plus a lot of information about the Kenilworth area.
I hope to see you at a future Hoot n Scoot.
